South Australia is home to some incredibly diverse and talented artists, and we wanted to take the chance to share some of their stories in their own voices. In 2018 we worked with poet and producer Manal Younus to support a range of culturally diverse poetry artists to create videos that present them online.

Elyas Alavi is an emerging artist based in Adelaide. Working in the form of painting, installation and performance art, Elyas is also an internationally renowned poet.

Two years ago, on the 27th of May 2017, we presented the poem Breathe by Manal Younus. Manal, accompanied by Alexis West, performed Breathe for Reconciliation SA's commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the 1967 referendum for a live audience of two thousand people.

Featuring Manal Younus and Alexis West, ‘Breathe’ is a poem we presented for Reconciliation South Australia in 2017.

Breathe was recorded by Adelaide Convention Centre and edited by Gilbert Kemp Attrill. Performance directed by Yasmin Gurreeboo with sound design by Sascha Budimski.
