Yarn for Art’s Sake is an informal drop in session for First Nations individuals working in the arts, an initiative proposed by our First Nations Advisory Group, hosted by Alexis West and Kyron Weetra. This session is designed to create a relaxed and supportive space for conversation, connection, and community building. Yarn for Art’s Sake offers opportunities for First Nations artists and arts workers to share updates, exchange ideas, and strengthen networks.

Alexis West is a Birra Gubba, Wakka Wakka, South Sea Islander, Caucasian woman living and learning on Permangk and Kaurna Countries for almost 25 years. Written and collaborated with No Strings Attached Theatre of Disability, Karrikarinya Theatre Collective, Kurruru Youth Arts, State Theatre Company South Australia, Yirra Yaakin, Act Now Theatre Company, Vital Statistix, Slingsby Theatre and Theatre Republic.

Kyron Weetra is a proud Narungga/Saxon clan artist currently living on Ngarrindjerri country. He is a writer, actor, musician, and moonlighter in many creative worlds. Kyron has worked with many Kaurna Yerta based arts companies, including the State Theatre Company of South Australia as their resident artist during 2024. As part of the residency a play was commissioned called 'The Charge of the Dark Brigade' which is in its final stages of development. Having worked with ActNow for over a decade, Kyron is currently helping develop and write 'Josh and Sophia Don't Play Together Anymore'. When not treading the boards or weaving the words that are spoke upon it, Kyron can be found in a shed writing songs of heart and soul. He is currently on placement as a producer intern through Performing Lines with Moogahlin Production Company on Gadigal Country. He is very much looking forward to learning, growing and networking, not just as an artist but as a professional in the arts industry.
